Operational objectives of the Comenius Program:

  1. To improve the quality and to increase the volume of mobility involving pupils and educational staff in different Member States (COM-OpObj-1).
  2. To improve the quality and to increase the volume of partnerships between schools in different Member States, so as to involve at least 3 million pupils in joint educational activities during the period of the programme (COM-OpObj-2).
  3. To support the development of innovative ICT-based content, services, pedagogies and practice in lifelong learning (COM-OpObj-4).

Concrete aims of the Partnership:

  • Motivate towards the learning of other languages through the implementation and display of joint projects and living with foreign families.
  • Foster the use of new technologies both individually and in the classroom through its use as main communication system in the development of the project.
  • Increase the feeling of European Citizenship.
  • Break down topics, stereotypes and prejudices by the direct contact with the reality of each of the participant countries.
  • Improve the teaching practice through the exchange of experiences.
  • Promote equality between sexes and cultures with sports, literary, artistic and leisure activities performed together.

REPORT:

The activities and their temporal distribution appear in the programmes of the meeting for students and teachers, you can check them on our Web Page inside “Program”. In this report we are only going to detail the topics that we have talked about and the agreements that we reached.

In this second meeting we have reviewed the agreements from our first meeting, we have done our common work, we have checked the results of first meeting evaluation, we have taken new agreements to go on with our Project and we have evaluated this meeting.

MONDAY 1/3/10

  • TEACHERS’ MEETING:

All the coordinators from the different countries were present except for Mrs. Sophie Bernier from France, due to personal reasons. The coordinator of the Project insisted on how important it is that all coordinators attend all meetings to achieve our aims as we accepted when we signed our application form.

Firstly, we checked the program to clarify some doubts and we divided students in three groups and gave them the instructions to do the common work of this second meeting: “Which relationship has existed between our countries along history?” Each group worked on one specific period of the history, Mr Piotr Podemski. (Polish Coordinator) is the person in charge of guiding them closely because he teaches History although the responsible team of this common work is the Bulgarian team. Students started with their work.

After that, we continued with our meeting. Spanish coordinator gave each coordinator individual certificates for those students attending the first meeting in Cartagena because she considers that this document could be useful to students in the future, if they want to apply for another European Programme or they want to work abroad. All of us agreed on the fact that it is worthy and decided to prepare individual certificates in all meetings together with a general certificate with the names of all people attending the meeting for coordinators, in order to present it to our National Agencies.

As we agreed in our first meeting, a competition to select the logo of our Project took place previously to this meeting. So that the Spanish coordinator informed that the winner logo is the Bulgarian one according to the rules we stated, and gave the results of the voting that each school sent to her. These are the results:

LOGO POLAND FRANCE BULGARIA ROMANIA LITHUANIA SPAIN
1 7% 3.5% 14% 27,56% 0% 13.27%
2 0% 12.5% 0% 5,43% 0% 6.97%
3 42% 3.5% 0% 8,65% 3% 7.5%
4 16% 39% 0% 34,60% 40% 47.85%
5 33,5% 41% 80% 20,32% 55% 18.63%
6 1,5% 0.5% 0% 3,42% 0% 5.76%

LOGO\TEAM TOTAL
1 LITHUANIAN 65.33%
2 FRENCH 24.90%
3 POLISH 64.65%
4 SPANISH 177.45%
5 BULGARIAN (The winner!!) 248.45%
6 RUMANIAN 11.18%

Spanish coordinator suggested that we should show all logos that reached the final at the national stage of this competition, because it could be important for those students who participated in the competition to choose our logo. Everybody accepted and we all set 20th March as deadline to send her the best logos from each country. She offered to do a PowerPoint presentation with them, in which the whole process of the selection of our winner logo could be explained.

We checked how our Project and its diffusion were going on at each school:

  • Rumanian partners said that after the first meeting their situation has improved because those students who went to Spain have been talking with others spreading out information, and also the logo competition has helped to involve all people at school. Now two more teachers have joined the Project, teaching Biology and History.
  • Polish partners have lost two teachers working in Comenius, now they are seven. They believe that the situation will improve after the third meeting in their school.
  • Lithuanian partners informed that their situation has improved a lot after the first meeting. Twenty teachers from different subjects are working on the Project by now. Students who were in Spain have helped highly with diffusion and logo competition has been very useful as well.
  • French partners exposed that students from two classes, who are studying journalism, are working on Comenius, and this fact is decisive to spread out information of the Project at their school.
  • Bulgarian partners explained some of the difficulties they found to get families who could host our students. For most families, it is not very easy because of several reasons: they live quite far away from school, some of them do not have spare rooms at home or they are shy due to their economic situation. That is why, the Headmaster had to ask for support to other school and in fact, four host students belong to the latter one. These students from the other school participate in all activities but without economic resources from Comenius, their parents pay themselves for their expenses. The headmaster, Mrs Anastasiya Nikolova, is very grateful to them. She also explained that few teachers speak English, and they consider that fact a hindrance for working in Comenius. The general coordinator explained that it is not a problem, because these teachers can also work in their own language in their subjects; furthermore these exchanges and their participation will encourage and help them to learn another language, which is one of our aims in the Project.
  • Spanish partners said that the logo competition and the first meeting in their country have helped to encourage some more teachers and students to join the Project as well.

By now, all Web Pages of our schools have been linked to our Comenius Web Page, and a notice board about Comenius is set at each school. Lithuanian team has done small books about each City where a meeting takes place (Cartagena, Plovdiv). Our Web Page and the competition of our Logo have been the main facts to spread out our Project.

TUESDAY 2/3/10

Students went on working in international teams preparing their presentations.

  • TEACHERS’ MEETING:

The Polish coordinator showed us the draft of the program for next meeting, we commented it and choose between some visits they suggested to us. They asked us to take with us some samples of water from our area. We also considered the possibility to take a common resource from our area and speak a bit about it. Everybody agreed on the fact that the Polish team has had a very good idea bringing us the draft of their program and decided that we will do the same for next meetings. The Spanish coordinator offered her help to prepare a detailed index for next common work in Poland, “Our environment. We are short of...?. Comparing our lacks”, because it is directly connected with the subject she teaches. It will help students and also teachers who have to work with students when they are doing their work. This common work and next ones will be carried out in the same way we have done in this meeting, according with the agreements we took in our first meeting in Spain. We also decided that we will establish a time table for teachers looking after students during their work.

We gave the preliminary questionnaire to Bulgarian team, which was completed by all people attending the meeting on the way to Plovdiv. They will elaborate the conclusion of it.

We split up the group of teachers into two groups;

  • One group checked the results of the post meeting evaluation of our first meeting. The results of this evaluation were in four documents: guest students, guest teachers, host and guest students together and host and guest teachers together. We wanted to know if there was different information from these four groups. Big differences were not found, so for next evaluation we will prepare only two documents with the results of the questionnaire, one for teachers and another one for students. Mrs. Gabriela Barnovschi, Rumanian teacher, offered to write the conclusions of this evaluation and you can read them in the section ”evaluation” in our Weg page, inside first meeting.
  • The other group prepared our annual questionnaire to evaluate our Project after each academic course. You can find it in the section “documents” in our Web page, together with the preliminary and post meeting questionnaires, which were elaborated in our first meeting in Spain. We agreed that these three documents should be in all our languages, in this way all people at each school can know about them, although they cannot speak English. We also agreed that this annual evaluation has to be done at each school before next meeting in Poland, to check our work of this first year of our Project, it will help us to know if we are working in a good way and which things need to be changed to achieve our aims.

THURSDAY 4/3/10:

TEACHERS AND STUDENTS’ MEETING.

The three international groups of students presented the results of their researches. After that, students and teachers joined in national groups and evaluated the presentations with the support of a document that had been prepared in advance. We chose the winner international group although all of them did a great work!!.

FRIDAY 6/3/10

  • TEACHERS AND STUDENTS:

We completed the questionnaires to evaluate our meeting. Bulgarian team has to take out the results of this evaluation, we will analyze these results in our next meeting in Poland and conclusions will be written.

  • COORDINATORS’ MEETING:

We checked all the agreements that we have had in this second meeting. Here they are:

Agreements

  • To elaborate individual certificates for the attendance of students and teachers to transnational meetings. To prepare a general certificate with the names and nationality of all people attending the meeting for each coordinator.
  • Spanish team collects all final logos from each country to keep them on our Web page. They will prepare a PowerPoint presentation that shows how the process of selection of the winner has taken place. Deadline to send your logos 20th March.
  • To translate the three questionnaires of evaluation (preliminary, post meeting and annual) into our own languages and send them to the coordinator of the Project.
  • Gabriela is going to finish the conclusions of the results of our first meeting and will send them to the coordinator in two weeks approximately.
  • France and Bulgaria will finish the translation of the first meeting report as soon as possible, because it should be done by now.
  • Spanish team is going to send the annual questionnaire that we have done and everybody will pass it at their schools in order to have the results of this evaluation ready before our third meeting in Poland. It will be there where we will compare the results and analyze if everybody is making progress.
  • Spanish team will help Piort with the guide of the next common work, trying to elaborate a detailed index which can help students when they prepare the product.
  • All common works will be worked in the same way that we have done in this meeting, dividing students into international groups and splitting up the whole work in the same number of parts. Teachers will be present in each group to help students to develop their work.
  • Students will be informed about the topic, the index of the work, and also the way in which they will be evaluated. They should work on it in advance in their own schools.
  • Mr. Pascal, from the French team, offered his help to improve the document to evaluate the presentation of the student work.
  • Polish team asked us to take some samples of water and one special resource from our area to Poland. We have to talk about five minutes explaining the special resource that we have selected.
  • For the following meetings and as our Polish team has done in this meeting, a draft of the programme will be presented in the previous meeting.
  • Bulgarian team will take out the results of the preliminary and post meeting questionnaires of this second meeting; we will check them in Poland.
  • Bulgarian team was in charge of this common work, so they will send the final product to the Spanish coordinator as soon as possible.

Meeting each other again has been a marvellous experience. Thank you very much to everybody for your illusion, effort and work.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYBODY!!!!
